Sandra Duncan has been involved with children's care and education since 1967. Her teaching career began as a kindergarten teacher for the Lake Central School Corporation where she established the charter kindergarten curriculum for the school system and taught kindergarten at Peifer School for ten years. She was the Director of Munster's Park and Recreation Program and was responsible for developing the summer program for over 500 children at 4 different sites.
For over 15 years, Dr. Duncan owned and operated five childcare centers, three private preschools, a reading diagnostic clinic, several school age programs, and summer park and recreation programs. Currently, Dr. Duncan is a co-founder of Creative Environments Design Collaborative, which is a consulting and training company focused on developing inspiring spaces for young children. Also, she is a Dissertation Chair for Nova Southwestern University and an adjunct faculty member of early childhood at Ivy Tech Community College. She served as President of High Reach Learning and the past publisher of Scholastic's Early Childhood Today and Early Childhood News magazines.
Dr. Duncan was a member of the board of directors for the National After School Alliance, the national advisory board for Primrose Schools, Pizza Hut's BookIt/BookIt Beginners Reading Incentive Program, and the University of Wisconsin-Stouts Curriculum Program Committee. Dr. Duncan is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, Indiana Association for the Education of Young Children, Association for Curriculum Development, and International Play Association. She is a frequent speaker at local and national conferences and a contributing author for Exchange magazine, which is an international publication that is written for early childhood practitioners. She is the author of several teacher resource books and recently, she co-authored two books: Inspiring Spaces for Young Children and Rating Observation Scale for Inspiring Environments (ROSIE).
